My Approach

Every bodywork session I perform is uniquely tailored to every client’s individual needs.

It always starts with a check-in prior to getting settled on the table:

  • Asking how they’ve been overall, noting tone of voice, body language, word choices, and indication of any possible shifts in their day-to-day life

  • Asking how their body is feeling today, if our session is for maintenance or to address an onset of a new problem area

  • Having them pinpoint areas of concern and go through active ranges of motion to visualize what is causing the pain, discomfort, or limitation in mobility

  • Accommodating for any adjustments they may need, such as extra pillows or supports

Once they are situated on the table, the session begins with an initial, grounding touch, which allows me to physically connect with the client. Pressure is variable depending on what’s being worked on, as well as the client’s tolerance. Stretches and ranges of motion may be performed depending on the treatment objective that day.

A brief reassessment is conducted at the end of the session to touch base and check in once again:

  • Any improvement in flexibility or range of motion?

  • Any decrease in tightness or discomfort in said area of concern?

  • Noting any changes in overall mood, posture, gait pattern, etc

This allows both myself and the client to qualify the work that’s been done and gauge treatment techniques and frequency for future sessions.

About Me

Jenniffer Garfield CMT in office

Pronouns: she/her. Bay Area born-and-raised.

I graduated from the National Holistic Institute (Emeryville campus) in June 2016 with 1350 hours of massage education and the title of Neuromuscular Massage Therapist and Health Educator. I am CAMTC-certified to practice massage in California (CAMTC #78335) and am insured with the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA). My hands-on skills and textbook knowledge have allowed me to work proficiently in areas of alternative health such as chiropractic, where the fruits of my labor truly shine.

While my career as a Massage Therapist was unplanned, I have found working as one and witnessing the benefits my clients experience have been incredibly gratifying. This is the fuel to my fire and makes it so that my work doesn’t feel like work. My purpose is to help others achieve a sense of relief and release from the daily stresses of life, and that's how Recalibration Massage East Bay came to be.
